Mindlock - The Apartment
With Mindlock’s beautiful hand-drawn art as a foundation, I wanted the music to feel just as personal and hand-made. By recording live instruments like violin, cello and guitar, I brought a human quality to the soundtrack that mirrors the raw, organic feel of the game’s world. There is warmth and character in the sound of real instruments, something that feels alive and imperfect in the best way. At the same time, each melody was composed to reflect the characters’ journeys. Colin’s theme, for instance, begins as a quiet and introspective tune during his moments of doubt but grows into a bold and uplifting version as his inner strength emerges.
This approach gave the soundtrack a distinct personality deeply connected to Mindlock’s story and atmosphere. Every piece was composed to complement the game’s emotional depth, becoming a part of its world and shaping how players experience the story on an emotional level.
Five Minutes Till Christmas
The music for Five Minutes Till Christmas is as lively and mischievous as the game itself. To match the quirky chaos of Santa dashing through a mall, I created a festive big band sound with a saxophone section, funky bass, jazz organ, and sleigh bells. The soundtrack has a playful energy and a certain wonkiness, inspired by the charmingly exaggerated style of older game soundtracks. It’s not about perfect realism, but about capturing that whimsical, gamey feel that amplifies the humor and absurdity of Santa stealing presents to fulfill kids’ last-minute wishes.
When writing the music, I wanted it to feel as fun and spirited as the gameplay. Lively melodies and steady rhythms keep up with the action, giving the soundtrack a bold personality. The melodies are lighthearted, while the rhythms drive the sense of urgency and playfulness, reflecting the chaotic but joyful nature of the game.
Osore
The Osore soundtrack is a journey through emotion, danger, and discovery. At its heart lies a deeply personal story, which I wanted to reflect in the music by combining emotional depth with the game’s vibrant and dynamic art style. For the main theme, I recorded a live cellist alongside my piano playing to capture the underlying sadness of the narrative. The cello’s expressive, mournful tone perfectly conveys the weight of battling one’s inner fears, while the piano adds a sense of introspection and resilience.
As the game progresses and the levels grow more challenging, I wanted the music to reflect that shift. Early tracks are lighter and more adventurous, capturing the vibrancy of the game’s art. But as you delve deeper into the mind’s darker areas, the tone changes, mirroring the increasing danger. For me, it was about creating a progression that feels natural, pulling players further into the emotional and perilous journey of Osore.
